VPS server security

The security factors of VPS servers are very often overlooked. It must be taken into account that these are servers that can potentially be used for criminal activities, and as each user is responsible for it, they are obliged to secure it.

Having analysed a number of cases involving VPS problems, the top issue is the use of passwords that are too simple for common user logins created on VPS. E.g. ts3 user, ts3 password. There are a lot of worms on the web that break into servers. Your VPS becomes such a worm when another worm installs this software on it. And so the chain of worms that are part of the botnet grows infinitely. This is why ReconV Hosting immediately blocks VPSs that are part of its botnet and have malware running on them.

The most common cause of problems is the installation of software from an unknown source, i.e. all kinds of crack, illegal versions and other things that are distributed illegally. Servers running such software are blocked, archived for evidence and reinstalled as potentially dangerous.

Furthermore, it should be noted that the use of illegal software is prohibited by law and we, as a server provider, work closely with the affected parties, i.e. the providers of software that is illegally used on our servers. Financial penalties are very severe and we will not in any way defend the activities of our customers who use pirated versions of software on our VPS.

Never run programs from an unknown source! You expose yourself to serious problems!

Another - very common - cause of problems is software running with user root. This is absolutely NOT allowed due to the possibility of tampering with the entire VPS operating system from within this program. Assuming the good intentions of the running program, it can - nevertheless - be hacked, through its security vulnerability, which is normally not vulnerable, but when running the program with user root user, it becomes dangerous.
